Backstage Series
"Hell isn’t a place, but a state of mind. Hell lives within us all."

What began as a month-long project for the first ever Release Something evolved into a pair of psychological horror games built in RPG Maker 2003. The original Backstage is probably one of the most well-recieved of any of Ghostlight's older projects. If you are a fan of games like Silent Hill, or if you liked what you saw of Ruptured Souls, you may want to give these a try.

Backstage: A Nightmare in One Act
"If you're paranoid, it's because we're watching you."

Tom Keller is lost. He has gone astray, and become trapped in a nightmare world that is a twisted mirror image of our own, tormented by horrific abberations, haunted by shattered memories. He is alone behind the world, and to escape, he must come to terms with all of his sins.

Backstage: A Nightmare in One Act was created by Legion in the space of just one month for the first ever "Release Something" event, originally held at Gaming World and later carried over to our friends at RPGMaker.Net. It is probably the best recieved of all of the older (pre-Mage Duel) projects Legion produced, and with good reason: this game is GENIUNELY FRIGHTENING, something many thought could not be achieved with the RPG Maker 2003 engine. It is very atmospheric, with multiple endings, and unforgiving difficulty. Read the readme included, and be sure to save often, as the horrors that lurk Backstage have claimed many before you. If you're up for the challenge, though, Backstage is a thoroughly enjoyable horror game.

Backstage II
"One's penance should be wrought in flesh."

Backstage II is the still-in-production sequel to Backstage: A Nightmare in One Act. In it, you can take control of one of two characters, The Prophet or The Prodigal, as they navigate through their own personal Hells. Backstage II promises multiple improvements over its predecessor, including directionally-based combat, Defensive Weapons that aren't discarded after one use, and much smoother animations. About an hour of each path is available in the demo, so if you were a fan of the first game or of Ruptured Souls, this may be worth a shot.
